My work explores themes of traditional Japanese folklore reimagined through the lens of modern day society and pop culture. Each piece has a story to tell-- historical legends and lessons interpreted based on my own experiences being raised in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as rural Japan. I depict mythological creatures that exist in the realm between reality and imagination alongside strong female figures. The women I draw are goddesses or spirits that live in this in-between world AKA the "Ukiyo (floating world)," and my prints are windows into this parallel universe that might exist within our daily lives.
